It Starts and Ends with You: The Mindset That Leads to Success

For a brief second, think about your life. Where are you at in terms of success? Are you on the right path towards reaching your goals? Are you working towards pursuing your dreams? Next, think of what you think got you there. Many people would owe their success to their schools, their bosses, their parents, friends, significant others, etc. And there’s nothing wrong with that per se. Extraneous circumstances do play a huge role in our behavior. The environment where we spend most of our time affects how we think, feel, and act. That’s why you’ll notice yourself having the same personality and perspective as your friends.

But external circumstances are not entirely to thank (or blame) for where we are in life. What plays a bigger role is our mindset. Think about it. Maybe you’ve always wanted to become a doctor, but you didn’t want to put in the work for it. Or you were intimidated by the time and effort it takes before you can practice the profession. So you choose a different path, an easy way out. In the end, our surroundings can influence us, but it is always our own decision which paths we choose to take.

If we are ultimately responsible for our decisions, then it goes without saying that we can dictate our future. We can set goals and encourage ourselves to achieve them, no matter what it takes. We can choose to overcome the struggles and hardships to reach our aspirations. Our minds are more powerful than we think. A positive mindset should not be underestimated because it has the power to change how we behave.

Every day counts

Nowadays, time goes by so fast, and we don’t even notice it. We keep pushing back our dreams, thinking that there’s always tomorrow. We are tempted to procrastinate and postpone achieving our goals to another day. But this mindset causes us to become unproductive. We hold off our dreams so far behind that, before we even know it, we’ve run out of time. It’s important to consider every day as an opportunity to succeed. Toss the “I can do it tomorrow” mindset and realize the value of time. Every hour of every day counts when it comes to achieving success, so don’t take advantage of it.

No dream is too shallow

We all have different wants in life. Some aspire to become a doctor, while others are more inclined to pursue the arts. But society has a knack for telling us what we should be. If we listen too intently to the standards of others, we start feeling insecure about our aspirations. We fear that we are not dreaming big enough. But this is a mindset we have to get rid of. Instead, we should believe that no dream is too shallow. If you want to become a painter, then do so. If you want to start an office cleaning service, then go for it. Don’t let anyone tell you what or who you should become. Only you can decide that for yourself.

Nothing is impossible

Often, what sets us off from achieving our dreams is the thought that they are unattainable. But this mindset causes us to limit ourselves and our capabilities. Nothing is impossible if you set your heart, soul, and mind to it — and put in the work, of course. You have to start believing in yourself more. You never know what you can do until you try.

Society, media, our loved ones, friends, etc. can all influence how we think. But putting those thoughts into action is a venture ultimately decided and made by yourself. Never underestimate the power of a positive mindset. Simply choosing to believe in yourself will get you far in the road to success.
