Can you already feel the heat? You probably can as summer is just around the corner! And you know this means having fun under the sun—hitting the beach, going on camping, fishing, and road trips, merely hanging out with family and friends in your backyard, and a whole lot more!
But before you get to have all that fun, you should first get in some work to make sure that you’re ready for the warm weather ahead. Check out some ways you can prepare to beat the summer heat:
Prepare your home
While you’re surely planning on being outdoors, you’ll still have to spend a lot of time at home during summer, so you should get your humble abode ready. For one, ensure that your air conditioner, fans, and other cooling appliances are in optimal working condition. The AC’s filter and the fans’ blades should be clean (Additional Tip: If you have ceiling fans, set the rotation to counterclockwise in summer). Don’t overlook the curtains, draperies, and shutters for your windows as well. They’ll help block sunlight and heat during the day and let in the breeze at night. You can get motorized blinds (and even draperies!) like the ones prevalent in New Jersey if you want to draw these window shades open and closed with just a press of a button.
Prepare your car
Like your home, you’ll need to get your set of wheels ready for the summer season. After all, you’ll most likely be going on a lot of trips to make the most of the warm weather! First off, check if your car’s AC system, including the condenser and Freon, is in tip-top shape to ensure you’re comfortably cool while in the car. Of course, the engine must also be kept cool, so the cooling system (radiator, cooling fans, water pump, etc.) should likewise be in excellent condition. And to protect your ride’s paint from the harmful UV rays (and pollution, too!), regularly clean and apply wax on your car.
Prepare yourself
All your getting your home and car ready for the summer will be all for naught if you are not prepared. You’ll need to keep your body hydrated. Aside from eight to 10 glasses per day, you must drink another one to two glasses for every hour you’re out in the sun. Additionally, eat water-rich foods. For protection from the damaging rays of the sun, remember to use sunglasses, hats or caps, and a sunscreen with at least a 30 SPF. It’s also almost time to break out your light-colored clothes made from breathable, lightweight, and natural materials, which will help you fight off the heat. Lastly, remind yourself to cool your body off by regularly taking a shower come summertime.
In the end, summer always promises to be fun. But you’ll only get the most of this great season if you make an effort to prepare not only your home and car but also yourself to beat the blistering heat. Happy Summer 2019!
